ECREEE and partners conduct second certification exam for off-grid solar system technicians in Benin

The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE), in collaboration with the Ecole Supérieure des Métiers des Energies Renouvelables (ESMER) and the Beninese Agency for Rural Electrification and Energy Management (ABERME), is organising a regional examination for certification of off-grid Solar photovoltaic system technicians (on Level 1). This comes under the framework of the ECOWAS Certification for Sustainable Energy Skills (ECSES) programme and supported by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ).

This is the second exam conducted in the Republic of Benin, which is among the 5 countries – including Senegal, Ghana, Nigeria, and Burkina Faso, that had organised similar exam in the ECOWAS region. The aim is to boost the deployment of off-grid-photovoltaic systems by increasing the number of qualified installers and practitioners with the ability to design, install and maintain off-grid Solar PV systems efficiently in the region.

Applicants are expected to have relevant prior experience or qualification and can be from any of the 15 ECOWAS countries. The exam includes a written test, which will take place on the 12th of December, 2022, followed by a practical exam on the 13th-14th of December, 2022 at ESMER, ABOMEY Calavi, Benin.

The certificate award ceremony will take place on Friday, December 16, in the attendance of the Minister of Energy of Benin and other local authorities.
